Medical Marijuana in D.C.
In May, 2010, Washington D.C. Council Members enacted legislation authorizing the establishment of regulated medical marijuana dispensaries in the District of Columbia and the law became effective on July 26, 2010, when Congress allowed the measure to become law without federal interference. A qualifying patient may designate one licensed health care practitioner, spouse, domestic partner, case manager/worker, or close friend, parent, sibling, child, or other close relative, to serve as a primary caregiver to assist the qualifying patient’s medicinal use of marijuana for the purposes of this act.
